Safer Collection and Transmission of Wastewater

The Sewer Division is made up of three (3) employees who are responsible for the maintenance of the collection system’s sewer mains, lift stations, and grinder pumps. Our goal is to provide for safe collection and transmission of wastewater through the City’s underground sewer mains to protect public safety, health and the environment. The City of Brandon has thirty-three (33) lift stations used to pump wastewater and transport it to the West Rankin Utility Authority to be treated.

Do’s and Don’ts of Grinders

Make sure the area around the pump and panel is free of debris, mulch, shrubs, trees, etc. In the event of a service call, unhindered access is required to properly service the pump and panel.

Block the pump station with objects; do not landscape directly around the lid.

Flush or put any of the following items down the drains, as they could cause damage, clog the pump, or result in sewer overflows and backups:

glass; metal; rocks; plastic objects (toys, utensils, etc.); sanitary napkins or feminine items; cigarettes; diapers, paints or paint thinner; socks, rags, cloth or baby wipes; kitty litter; cooking grease, oils, or fats.
