Morning School Lockdown – 5-12-2014

Brandon, Mississippi – This morning, May 12, 2014, at approximately 10:08 AM a Brandon Police Officer observed a subject walking on Boyce Thompson Road in Brandon, swinging an axe above his head.  When the subject saw the officer approaching, he fled into a wooded area.  The office gave chase on foot and managed to catch the subject.  A brief struggle ensued in which the subject threw away his axe and managed to get away from the officer and run deeper into the woods.  During this struggle, the officer was assaulted by the suspect but he sustained no injuries requiring hospitalization. Due to the incidents proximity to Rouse Elementary School, the school was placed in lockdown as a safety precaution.

A thorough search of the area was conducted but the suspect managed to escape capture. Brandon Police are looking for a 5’10”, African-American male wearing bluejeans and a white sleeveless shirt, the suspect had a stubble beard and appeared to be balding. The Brandon Police Department is asking that anyone having knowledge of this suspects identity to call the Brandon Police Department at 601-825-7225.
